I used to suffer from really bad hay fever and would regularly take antihistamine tablets to combat the sneezing and itchy eyes and nose.
Hay fever is caused by breathing in pollen particles and by pollen getting into the eyes.
You can get hay fever at any time from early spring to late summer, depending on which pollen or pollens you’re allergic to. Hay fever is a common allergic condition that affects up to one-in-five people at some point in their life.
Before I started juicing I also used to suffer quite badly with asthma. If you have asthma, your asthma symptoms may get worse when you have hay fever. Sometimes, asthma symptoms only occur when you have hay fever.
These symptoms include:
- tight chest
- shortness of breath
Well guess what? Ginger is a natural antihistamine and since I’ve been having daily “ginger slammers” I no longer suffer from hay fever – goodbye tablets :-).
This slammer is not just for allergies either. Ginger has been used for its health benefits for over 5,000 years and is a favorite medicinal as well as culinary herb. Unlike most spices, the part that has the most medicinal value grows under ground. Often mistakenly called “ginger root” this is actually the rhizome of the plant which is more of a subterranean stem than a root.
What is one of the easiest ways to get your daily dose of ginger? Introducing the Ginger Slammer. The ginger can have a strong, warming effect so my advice would be to down the shot in one (tequila slammer style)!
- 1 thumb sized chunk of ginger
- 1/2 apple
How to Make It
Simply chop the ginger and apple and then juice. Pour into a shot glass and it’s down in one baby!
