Since watching Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead, Leslie Justice has transformed her life. Leslie now inspires many others with her juicing success, through her Juicing For Dummies Facebook group which boasts over 7,000 members. On the Juicing For Dummies Facebook page, Leslie and her husband Trace say they are “here to promote eating more fruits, vegetables and juicing them of course. Juicing is not a diet, it is a lifestyle.”
Neil Martin: When did you first start juicing and how did your first learn of the idea?
Leslie Justice: I first started juicing in April 2012 after stumbling on the movie Fat, Sick And Nearly Dead on Netflix around March 2012.
Neil Martin: What made you start juicing?
Leslie Justice: My husband Trace became sick with hyperthyroidism, arthritic psoriasis, high blood pressure & cholesterol, autoimmunity disorder and sleep apnea. We knew there had a to be something other than bottles of medication. The medication didn’t cure these diseases but covered them up.
Neil Martin: Did you follow a specific program and if so, which one?
Leslie Justice: At the time Mr. Joe Cross didn’t have plans set up on his website, so we followed in his foot steps based on the the movie.
“I had zero self confidence, self worth or respect for myself”
Neil Martin: What has been the biggest changes/ benefits you’ve experience since you started juicing?
Leslie Justice: Being successful at a 30 day fast from day one proved to me that I had the strength to do anything.
Being a survivor of 12 years in domestic violence (during a former relationship) I was still beat down emotionally, despite rebuilding my life. I did not look up when I was in public, more less make eye contact. I had zero self confidence, self worth or respect for myself.
Around day 17 of my first juice fast I had an awaking. The fog seemed to be completely lifted and mental clarity hit me like a train. I was awake and ready to live.
Neil Martin: Since you started juicing what has been the biggest challenge and how did you deal with them?
Leslie Justice: My biggest challenge was and still is eliminating cheese from my diet. I deal with this challenge by not depriving myself but reasonably limiting cheese.
Neil Martin: How has the juicing changed your life?
Leslie Justice: Juicing has changed my life by granting me the gift of self love. With this comes a level of confidence. I’ve taken that to step out of my comfort zone a do things like fly to NYC to be a part of Joe Cross’ 12 Reboot success stories. Speaking in front of a camera and meeting the man who was my inspiration. It was a honor to meet Mr. Joe.
“I’ve lost 50 pounds all together and maintained that for over a year with ease”
Physically I was revived with energy and my triglycerides went from 280 down to 78 in the matter of a couple months. I was borderline being placed on blood pressure medication and that as well was back to a normal level.
I’ve lost 50 pounds all together and maintained that for over a year with ease. I started with a 30 day fast and I did smaller intermittent fasting along with a clean diet and exercise.
Neil Martin: What has been my worse juicing mistake and why?
Leslie Justice: My biggest mistake juicing was getting experimental with produce I didn’t know what it was. I love to make creative and beautiful pictures. I had tried Bok Choy for the first time and it was good. I bought leeks without prior research. I used a great mix of ingredients, I thought. As soon as I put in through my juicer it hit my eyes with onion fumes. It was the most disgusting juice ever. I was to frugal to dump it so I drank it anyway.
Neil Martin: What do you believe to be more essential to long term health, nutrition, exercise or mental wellbeing?
Leslie Justice: I believe the more essential part of long term health would be mental wellbeing. I believe this because without that you don’t have the ability to be clear minded on nutrition and exercise. Poor mental wellbeing can prevent you from caring. Most overweight or obese people are not happy being that way.
Neil Martin: How much and what type of exercise do you regularly do?
Leslie Justice: Right now I’m doing cardio on the treadmill then about 30 minutes of meditation in the sauna. I had never been in a gym up until after my first fast. My body responded extremely well to it and I lost another 28 pounds.
Neil Martin: What do you typically eat/ drink on a regular day?
Leslie Justice: I drink around 48-72oz of juice a day (approx 1.5 – 2 litres). I eat around one meal a day and snack on fruits or my guilty pleasure of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. As a meal it normally consists of a salad with chopped veggie chicken patties, baked potatoes.
Neil Martin: Is your diet completely vegan or vegetarian?
Leslie Justice: I tried to be vegan for a while but the truth is that I love cheese. I would walk by the cooler at the market and salivate over blocks of cheese. I’ve had no problem giving up any other animal products and I will stay the rest of my life.
Neil Martin: What are your thoughts on caffeine and alcohol?
Leslie Justice: Being from Tennessee, sweet tea is a staple at every meal. I don’t drink it much anymore simple because I love it and rather not tease myself. As for alcohol, I love a big mug of DosXX with Mexican food we get at least once a week!
