Juicing and health icon Jack LaLanne died of pneumonia on 23 January 2011. Jack was 96 and not only was he healthy until the week before he died, it is reported that he was still doing his exercise routines (2 hours daily) until the day before his death!

Jack had many physical achievements in his life. For example, in 1954 (aged 40), he swam the entire 8,981 feet (2,737m) length of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, under water, with 140 pounds of air tanks and other equipment strapped to his body; a world record. He repeated this performance in 1975 (aged 61), but this time he was shackled and towed a 1,000-pound boat!

Here are a few of Jack LaLanne’s inspirational words to mark the 3rd anniversary of his passing.

“I drink 6 or 7 glasses of water a day. I also drink vegetable juice. And I have at least 5 or 6 pieces of fresh fruit everyday and 10 raw vegetables.”

“How do you build up your bank account? By putting something in it everyday.Your health account is no different. What I do today, I am wearing tomorrow. If I put inferior foods in my body today, I'm going to be inferior tomorrow, it's that simple.”

“Do you know how many calories are in butter and cheese and ice cream? Would you get your dog up in the morning for a cup of coffee and a donut?”

“If you've got a big gut and you start doing sit-ups, you are going to get bigger because you build up the muscle. You've got to get rid of that fat! How do you get rid of fat? By changing your diet.”

“I want to be able to do things; I want to look good; I don't want to be a drudge on my wife and my kids. And I want to get my message out to the people. I might live forever or it may seem like that.”
