Sharon Agates is a qualified counsellor with certification and extensive experience in human dynamics, cellular healing, stress management, juice nutrition, aromatherapy and Indian head massage. Sharon runs Agape Cottage in Essex, UK, a health retreat she created “purely out of love” with a passion to transform and empower women to live a more healthy life.
Neil Martin: When did you first start juicing and how did you first learn about the idea?
Sharon Agates: I first learnt about juicing in February 2011, it was my 50th birthday and I decided to take myself on a three day juice detox at Champneys with Jason Vale – I became hooked.
Neil Martin: What made you decide to start juicing?
Sharon Agates: It was after spending three days with Jason, it all made complete sense so I joined his natural juice therapy programme.
Neil Martin: Did you follow a specific program, if so which one?
Sharon Agates: Jason Vale programmes [7lbs in 7 days, etc]. Becoming a [qualified] Natural Juice therapist was one of the best things I have ever done – I love educating people about the benefits of juicing to their well being!
Neil Martin: What have you found to be the biggest changes / benefits you’ve experienced since you started juicing?
Sharon Agates: I lost a stone (12 pounds) in weight and feel so much healthier, I have also stopped taking my thyroid tablet.
Neil Martin: Since you started juicing what have you found most challenging and how did you deal with this challenge?
Sharon Agates: Sugar -as soon as I indulge it has got me. I detox for a day or two to get it out of my system.
Neil Martin: How has juicing changed your life?
Sharon Agates: I am far healthier than I have ever been and I have created a business from juicing.
Neil Martin: What has been your biggest juicing mistake and why?
Sharon Agates: My choice of juicer I should have looked into it more especially when it came to juicing wheatgrass.
Neil Martin: Which do you think is more essential to health and wellbeing, exercise or diet and nutrition?
Sharon Agates: For me it is my spiritual well being, juicing and then my rebounder!
Neil Martin: How much and what kinds of exercise do you regularly do?
Sharon Agates: I walk my dog and use the rebounder a few times a week – exercise is not my greatest strength. Will change in 2014!
Neil Martin: What do you eat / drink on a typical day?
Sharon Agates: I have a green juice and beet juice and a small cooked meal veggie or fish.
Neil Martin: Is your diet completely vegetarian / vegan?
Sharon Agates: I am afraid no, but I am changing and am eating more and more veggie!
Neil Martin: What are your thoughts on caffeine and alcohol?
Sharon Agates: No good for you at all, but I do indulge now and then!
Neil Martin: What advice would you give someone who is thinking about adding juicing to their life?
Sharon Agates: I support people daily to juice and educate them on the benefits of juicing. I believe that it is the most vital thing you can do for your body and health.
Neil Martin: If you were stuck on a desert island with a working juicer and blender and an unlimited supply of just 6 ingredients, what would those ingredients be?
Sharon Agates: Beetroot, carrot, apple, watermelon, ginger and chilli. All these make a fab spicy juice! A great blood builder and energy boost.
