“If you really want to turn your health around, start juicing today.” Kris Carr

Since launching NaturalJuiceJunkie.com in September 2013 I’ve featured interviews with a number of juicing success stories. One question I have asked in all these interviews is:

“What advice would you give someone who is thinking about adding juicing to their life?”

Paula Hughes, a Brit living in Dubai has lost a total of 126 pounds (57 kgs). Paula suggests being openminded when you start juicing about how different ingredients will taste:  “Don’t think you know how a certain fruit or veg is going to taste when juiced and mixed with other fruits and veggies, keep that open mind and you might be nicely surprised. Try it once at least, be adventurous and just enjoy it.”

I have to echo this. Before I started juicing I would never have imagine who delicious some vegetables would taste, especially when made in certain combinations.

Multiple Ironman finisher Andrea Wentworth suggests “if you add in the good stuff, it will eventually push out the bad! Try all sorts of different juice recipes to get the full spectrum of the vitamins and minerals you get in different fruits and veg. You should aim to eat [or juice] a rainbow every day.”

Why should you start juicing?

Juicing has enabled Joe Arnold from Kansas, US to get off all of his diabetic medication and reduce his cholesterol triglycerides, weight and waist size. Joe’s advice is that juicing “will be the most positive thing you can ever add for your health!” He warns that juicing may “take some time to get use” but adds that “once you start and see the benefits, you will add it [juicing] for the rest of your life.”

Joe’s views are echoed by many that I speak to. Tanya Hoffay from New York was faced with gastric bypass surgery when she opted to try juicing for weight loss. Tanya has now shed over 100 pounds (16 more than when I interviewed her). Tanya says “Juicing had been the best decision that I have made for myself. If you want to feel better, have more energy and look younger give juicing a try.” Her advice is to “take it one day at a time, one juice at a time and don’t beat yourself up if you slip up.”

Many people start juicing in order to lose weight. Why? Because it works! That said I am a firm believer that we should focus on health, rather than weight loss. If you focus on health, your body will find its optimum weight.

Jason Bray, who has lost 105 pounds through juicing agrees, saying: “Don’t focus on the weight but instead just focus on just getting the body healthy and the weight will drop. As long as you are feeling good (maybe after the first few days) then you are on the right track.” His advice on juicing is to “Just try it! And relax! Make sure that you are doing it for yourself and not to please a family member or partner.”

His last point here is important. It has to be your decision. If you decide to do this for yourself you are much more likely to stick with it and achieve success.

Ignore the neigh sayers

Kevin Daw, owner of Soul Juices Mobile Juice Bar says that since he started juicing he has not suffered any common ailments, colds, coughs, headaches, etc. Kevin says “Do it! Ignore the doomsday merchants and those who want you to fail, there are many out there, ‘too much sugar’ ‘its not healthy’ pah!! I’d say, are you ready to feel the way you’ve always dreamed you could feel? Yes? Well then what are you waiting for!?”

I think the final word of this one goes to Paula Hughes who says “Find out how juicing can work for you personally, than adapt it into your life, but don’t make it a chore. Make juicing fun and involve you family, or friends or even your work colleagues.
