Inspired by Super Juice Me, Charlie Green recently completed 28 days of juicing during which she achieved a weight loss of 39lb (over 2.5 stone) without ANY exercise. She also saw huge improvements in her skin.
Neil Martin: When did you first start juicing and how did you first learn about the idea?
Charlie Green: I first started juicing 29 days ago! I had watched Fat, Sick and Nearly dead a few months ago and thought it was amazing but I didn’t do anything about it. I then saw Super Juice Me advertised for free but didn’t get to watch it at the time. But then a friend of mine did a 6 day juicing cleanse and I was really inspired and searched out Super Juice Me and paid to rent it to learn more.
Neil Martin: What made you decide to start juicing?
Charlie Green: After I watched the Super Juice Me movie, I felt I had to give it a go as I felt this might be the key to finally losing weight and getting healthy for life.
Neil Martin: Did you have any medical conditions prior to juicing?
Charlie Green: Nothing diagnosed, although I did have very dry skin, particularly on one hand. I also had a very sensitive stomach when eating certain food.
“I’ve tried Weight Watchers, Slimming World… I lost weight but I couldn’t stick with them”
Neil Martin: Was weight loss one of the reasons you started juicing?
Charlie Green: This was my biggest reason. I’ve tried Weight Watchers, Slimming World, following a low fat diet and Cambridge Diet. Possibly others. They were all successful in the short term, I lost weight but I couldn’t stick with them.
Neil Martin: Since juicing, how much weight have you lost?
Charlie Green: 39lb (over 2.5 stone)
Neil Martin: What have you found to be the biggest changes / benefits you’ve experienced since you started juicing?
Charlie Green: My skin has improved a lot. My energy levels have also increased.
“I had to make the decision to concentrate on me”
Neil Martin: Since you started juicing what have you found most challenging and how did you deal with this challenge?
Charlie Green: My husband and I were supposed to be doing the 28 day cleanse together. I was preparing all of his juices for him as well as mine. 2 weeks into the programme, he confessed that he hadn’t been following it at all and had been eating all sorts. I felt very sad that I had been working so hard at preparing all of the juices for them to be wasted. I had to make the decision then to just concentrate on me.
Neil Martin: How has juicing changed your life?
Charlie Green: My mindset about food has changed completely. I was a terrible chocoholic and felt the need to have large amounts of chocolate every single day – as well as other junk food.
By the second week I had no interest in chocolate at all, I went into supermarkets and when I saw chocolate I initially thought “I really want that” but then immediately realised that the thought was an automatic reaction and I actually really didn’t want it at all!
It felt like a revelation!
It has made me think very carefully about the kind of food I want to put into my body.
Neil Martin: What has been your biggest juicing mistake and why?
Charlie Green: Not always being organised. There were a few days where we’d been out of the house longer than planned and I hadn’t had a juice prepared which meant I was hungry. Thankfully I waited to prepare one when I got home but I could have easily gone off track and eaten.
Neil Martin: Any juicing tips you have picked up along the way?
Charlie Green: Plan, Plan, Plan! Also, finding suitable substitutes to the veg that you really can’t stand. I found that I just couldn’t take parsnip and found that celeriac was a suitable substitute so used this.
“I did the 28 days without any exercise”
Neil Martin: Which do you think is more essential to health and wellbeing, exercise or diet and nutrition?
Charlie Green: I think diet and nutrition is more important.
Although exercise is important, I did the 28 days without any exercise and can see the benefits of doing it, whereas if I had done 28 days of exercise and not addressed my diet, I don’t believe I would have benefitted anywhere near as much.
Neil Martin: How much and what kinds of exercise do you regularly do?
Charlie Green: Apart from running around after my 3.5 year old and 7 month old, I haven’t done any exercise during the plan. I would really like to start including some exercise into my life
Neil Martin: What do you eat / drink on a typical day?
Charlie Green: Since finishing the plan, I now intend to have two juices a day and one meal. I tend to only drink water or herbal tea and will keep doing this. As I have just finished the 28 day plan I am still learning about the healthy meals that I can make for my evening meals.
Neil Martin: Is your diet completely vegetarian / vegan?
Charlie Green: No, I will continue to eat meat and fish but am more conscious about not eating processed meat (sausages, mince, etc).
Neil Martin: What are your thoughts on caffeine and alcohol?
Charlie Green: I want to avoid both as much as possible. Although I was never a coffee/tea drinker, I had a lot of caffeine through chocolate and cola and don’t have any interest in having either of those. I don’t really drink alcohol much at all anyway (I haven’t had any alcohol for about 18 months due to being pregnant and breastfeeding). But I wouldn’t say that I would become teetotal as I feel that I may have the odd drink on a special occasion.
Neil Martin: What advice would you give someone who is thinking about adding juicing to their life?
Charlie Green: Do it! Get as much support as you can and just commit to it, you will be so grateful that you did!
Neil Martin: If you were stuck on a desert island with a working juicer and blender and an unlimited supply of just 6 ingredients, what would those ingredients be?
Charlie Green: Ooh! Avocado, Banana, beetroot, Apples, strawberries, carrot
