“Sorry! You Can Still Be A Hero” were not the words I hoped to see when I opened the post this morning, but sad as I am about not getting into the 2015 London Marathon, maybe there is some truth in those words…

Back in 1987 when I was 12 years old my Dad ran the Southampton Half Marathon and (although I doubt he realised it at the time) he also sowed the seeds in my mind that I one day wanted to do the same. See, my Dad was (and still is) my hero. It may be 16 years since he cancer took him from us, but he still inspires me in so many ways and now I get to fulfil a dream I have held for 27 years.

The Return of the Southampton Half Marathon

2015 marks the return of the Southampton Marathon. As soon as the event was announced I was filled with excitement, until I discovered it was the same day as the London Marathon. After my injury in this years London Marathon I feel the race and I have unfinished business, so I resigned myself to missing the Southampton Half.

Although sad that I will not be returning to London in 2015, the opportunity to run Southampton carries so much emotion I can actually feel tears welling in my eyes as I write this. I finally get to run in the footsteps of my hero.
